In recent years, the way Canadians travel has shifted. We’re moving away from the standard family vacation and leaning into multi-generational trips—the kind where grandparents, parents, and kids all share in the adventure.
When searching for a destination that satisfies everyone from a toddler to a retiree, convenience, safety and engagement are the top priorities. That’s exactly why Fiji is quickly becoming a favourite for Canadian families. It offers a rare combination of comfortable relaxation and genuine cultural connection that makes every member of the family feel like an honoured guest. Let’s dive in to find out why Fiji is for families.
Why Fiji Works for Families
Fiji is a fantastic choice for families because the islands are easygoing safe, and What really sets Fiji apart, though, is how deeply family is woven into Fijian culture. The secret to Fiji’s success for family vacations isn’t just the sunshine. It’s the people that make it truly remarkable:

A Culture of Care
In Fiji, children aren’t just allowed—they’re celebrated. The Fijian culture is deeply community-oriented, and this warmth extends to every visitor. From the first “Bula!” at the airport to the gentle hospitality at the resorts, you’ll find an easy, relaxed atmosphere that encourages families to finally slow down and match the island time pace.
Safety & Peace of Mind
For parents, Fiji offers a level of safety that is hard to beat. The islands are renowned for being secure and welcoming. Most resorts, such as those on the Coral Coast or the Mamanuca Islands, are designed as self-contained paradises where kids can explore safely. Compared to the bustling, often overwhelming tourist hubs of larger cities, Fiji feels like a protected sanctuary.
Resorts Designed for Families
Fiji has mastered the art of the family-friendly resort. Many properties offer room layouts specifically for larger groups, including interconnecting rooms or multi-bedroom villas. Looking to keep the kids entertained while you hit the spa or relax on the beach? Many resorts also offer child care and kids clubs.
Activities for the Whole Family
The best family vacations are built on shared experiences. In Fiji, the “to-do” list has something for every energy level, there are of activities that suit every age. Each island location offers something different so it is important to talk to us about what your family enjoys so that we can select the resorts best suited to your group.

It’s a destination where no one feels dragged along—the seniors can enjoy luxury spa rituals and golf, while the younger generations tackle the kids club, reef and the rainforest.
Planning the Trip from Canada
Ideal Trip Length
Since you’re travelling from the Great White North to the South Pacific, we usually suggest a stay of at least 10 to 14 days. This gives your family plenty of time to move past the initial travel fatigue and fully immerse yourselves in the island rhythm. A longer stay also allows you to split your time between the main island and the smaller outer island groups without feeling rushed.
Suggested Pacing
The key to a successful family getaway is intentional slow travel. We recommend a two-stop itinerary: start with a few days on the main island Viti Levu to settle in and enjoy the resort amenities, then head out to a boutique island resort for a more secluded, tropical experience. By limiting the number of transfers, you ensure the kids stay happy, and the adults stay relaxed.
Tips for the Long Haul
Travel from Canada to Fiji is easy, with direct flights multiple times each week from Vancouver, making this South Pacific paradise more accessible than ever for families. Travelling across the Pacific with little ones is all about preparation. Your flights to Fiji will generally depart Canada in the evening, so kids can hopefully sleep through most of the journey. Pack a surprise bag with new, quiet activities to reveal every few hours, and don’t forget to stay hydrated!
