Learn More About Cambodia

When visiting Cambodia, most travellers will visit Angkor Wat (Siem Reap) and Phnom Penh. Angkor Wat is a temple complex and one of the largest religious monuments in the world. It was originally created as a Hindu temple but was slowly changed to a Buddhist temple at the end of the 12th century. This temple is spectacular at any time of the but for the best views, the optimal lighting conditions are around 1pm to 2pm. Sunrise is also a great sight to witness as the sun rises behind Angkor Wat and the best colours are seen just before the sun climbs into view.  Keep in mind, it is illegal to take ancient stone sculptures from the Angkor period out of the country. Visiting the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh is a must-see but be sure to dress appropriately. Travellers must wear shorts that reach to the knee, and tops that reach to the elbow.

To get around, try one of Cambodia's 3 wheeled motor taxis. Known in Thailand as tuk-tuk's, Cambodians call them remork-motos, or remork for short. Rickshaws (cyclo) are also a fun way to explore the towns.

Tipping is not customary, but in a country as poor as Cambodia, tips can go a long way. Credit cards are widely accepted in the large cities.

A visa is required to enter Cambodia and can be obtained on arrival. A one month tourist visa costs about US$30.00 and you are required to have one passport-sized photo as well. A visa can also be obtained prior to arriving the country.
