Northern Territory Australia
When travellers think about visiting the Northern Territory, what often comes to mind are the outdoor activities such as camping and stargazing, the spellbinding national parks, fantastic Aboriginal cultural experiences and exhibits, desert monoliths such as Uluru, The Olgas, Devils Marbles and so much more.
There are many awe-inspiring attractions to be had at Uluru, also known as Ayers Rock. We highly recommend the once-in-a-lifetime Field of Lights experience! Watch as Uluru turns into a variety of red hues just as darkness falls. And it is shortly after sundown that the Field of Light brings the desert to life with an art installation that covers more than seven football fields with 50,000 spindles of light! This exhibit, created by artist Bruce Munro, sells out due to popularity and so it is important to book this attraction well in advance! Another must-do in this region is to enjoy an evening of dining under the sparkling outback sky through the Sounds of Silence experience. The Sounds of Silence dining experience starts on a viewing platform overlooking Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and as the sun sets, while listening to the sound of a didgeridoo, you and your table mates can enjoy the magic of the everchanging silhouette of Ayers Rock in silence.
The World-Listed Heritage site east of Darwin, Kakadu National Park, is rich in primitive landscapes with its 20,000-year-old aboriginal rock art galleries, rugged landscapes and stunning waterfalls. Learn about indigenous Australia through ancient storytelling excursions, cultural centres and weaving workshops. The local aboriginal culture in Kakadu is around 40,000 years old and the experiences available offer travellers many insights into the life and culture of the traditional owners. Take a cruise in Kakadu’s dramatic wetlands for a great wilderness experience to see crocodiles as well as rare flora and fauna.
Alice Springs, one of the largest towns in the Northern Territory, offers guests stunning mountain ranges as well as being a lively arts, culture and events hub. Enjoy a culinary tour en-foot in Todd Mall, the town’s pedestrian-only street, that offers everything from restaurants serving homemade eats, beautiful botanic gardens featuring native flora, craft beer breweries and so much more.
Katherine is the region to unwind and enjoy one of the many hot springs natural spas! Enjoy a refreshing dip as well as many walks, picnic areas and camping facilities. Katherine Gorge provides spectacular scenery of towering cliffs from the convenience of a small cruise boat in Nitmiluk National Park.
