TRIP ITINERARY
Australian Adventure - Sydney, Ayers Rock, Port Douglas
12 Day Adventure
Day 1: Arrive Sydney, Australia
Welcome to Sydney! Upon arrival you will be transferred to your centrally located Sydney hotel where you will stay for 4 nights. The balance of your day is at your leisure.
Days 2-4: Sydney & The Blue Mountains
You will have 3 days in Sydney to explore the city, iconic sights and surrounding areas. Your package includes two sightseeing excursions:
Discover the Rocks – A walking tour of the historic Sydney rocks precinct that holds a unique place in Sydney’s colonial history as the birthplace of European Australia. This is a great introduction, including legends and history of the city as you stroll the shoreline of the sparkling Sydney Harbour and wander down hidden alleyways, shady courtyards and cobbled lanes. This short, guided heritage walk is one of our most popular experiences.
Blue Mountains National Park – Spend a full day exploring outside Sydney to the majestic Blue Mountains on a small group Blue Mountains wildlife excursion. Explore stunning lookouts, valleys, rainforest areas and bush walks. Wander through a small mountain village and if you are lucky, get up close to iconic Australian animals.
Day 5: Sydney – Uluru (Ayers Rock)
Transfer to Sydney Airport today for your flight to Ayers Rock (flight not included, must arrive in Ayers Rock prior to 3.00pm). On arrival, you will be met at Ayers Rock Airport and transferred to your hotel where you will stay for 3 nights.
This afternoon, visit the Uluru- Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre. Later, travel around the base of Uluru hearing about sacred sites found at Uluru, native flora, fauna and intriguing culture of the traditional owners, the Anangu. Continue by coach to the Kuniya Walk to the beautiful Mutitjulu Waterhole. In the late afternoon witness the striking colour changes of Uluru at sunset while enjoying sparkling wine.
Day 6: Kings Canyon & Watarrka National Park
Depart early to travel to Kings Canyon, stopping along the way at Kings Creek Station for breakfast. Originally vacant crown land, the station now runs cattle and is the largest exporter of wild camels in Australia. Learn the intriguing story of Ian and Lynn Conway and their dedication to Aboriginal children in the region’s remote communities. Continue to Kings Canyon and make the rocky climb to the rim of the canyon for marvelous views of Watrarrka National Park. The Rim Walk is 6 kms/3.7 miles, time permitting, you may descend into the green oasis of the ‘Garden of Eden’. The circuit walk takes approximately 3 hours and is rocky and steep in parts, a good level of fitness is recommended. Alternatively, you may wish to take an easier, shorter walk to explore the boulder strewn canyon floor. Return to Ayers Rock in the afternoon.
Day 7: Uluru & Kata Tjuta
Rise early this morning to travel to Talinguru Nyakunytjaku, the Uluru (Ayers Rock) sunrise viewing area. Watch the first rays of sun light up the desert while enjoying a tea or coffee. After sunrise travel to the mystical 36 domes of Kata Tjuta. On the way, enjoy panoramic views of the southern side of Kata Tjuta at a dune viewing platform before arriving at Walpa Gorge. Spend some time exploring the gorge and the unusual conglomerate rock formations. The 1.3km walking trail through Walpa Gorge follows the natural creek between two of the tallest domes of Kata Tjuta. The afternoon begins with another magical Uluru Sunset before returning to the resort.
Day 8: Uluru (Ayers Rock) – Port Douglas
This morning you will take a trip to an art installation in the middle of the outback desert called Field of Light, by artist Bruce Munro. While it is still dark, wander through 50,000 magical handmade glass light spheres. Then make your way to the top of a dune to enjoy a warm drink as you watch the sunrise in the distance behind Uluru. Morning light floods the landscape, including Kata Tjuta behind you. Later in the day, you will be transferred to Ayers Rock Airport and depart the red centre of Australia to head to Cairns (flight is not included, must depart Ayers Rock after 9.30am).
On arrival in Cairns, you will be transferred north to Port Douglas where you will stay for 4 nights. The balance of your day is at your leisure.
Days 9-11: Port Douglas, The Great Barrier Reef & Daintree Rainforest
You have 3 days in tropical north Queensland to explore. We have included the following two experiences in your package:
Great Barrier Reef cruise – Explore the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef, an extraordinary living organism including 3 breathtaking sites on the reef with ample time to relax, explore and snorkel spectacular reefs with abundant marine life. Meals included: Lunch
Daintree Rainforest Adventure – Experience the World Heritage listed Daintree Rainforest, the oldest living rainforest in the world at 160 million years. This is the only place in the world where two World Heritage listed areas – The Daintree Rainforest and The Great Barrier Reef sit side by side forming one of the most diverse ecosystems on earth. Spot crocodiles in the wild, marvel at the beauty of this area from Alexandra Lookout and take in the rainforest from the forest floor with informative guided walks and if you are lucky, you may spot a Cassowary.
