There is something powerful about celebrating an anniversary somewhere that feels far from everyday life. Fiji has a way of slowing everything down so you can make the most of your special occasion. Whether you are celebrating your first year together or another milestone, Fiji is such a unique way to mark your occasion.

For Canadian couples wanting an island destination that feels different from the usual choices – a unique destination that is unique, beautiful, relaxing and genuinely welcoming… Fiji is a place that stands apart from the typical romantic getaways and will stay with you long after you return home.

A Chance to Celebrate Your Story, Not Just Another Beach Break

The pace in Fiji is gentle, the atmosphere is calm, and the whole experience encourages you slow down and spend quality time together. Many couples say they feel a sense of gratitude wash over them within the first day.

Fijians value connection and community. The concept of vei lomani means “to love one another,” is reflected in the warmth visitors feel. Music is also a love language in Fiji and resort staff often sing to welcome guests or celebrate special moments. Flowers are also everywhere, from frangipani tucked behind the ear to floral decorations at dinner, flowers are a simple symbol of beauty and celebration.

Private Islands & Small Boutique Resorts

Fiji is known for its intimate resorts, many of them adults‑only or boutique properties with a limited number guests. This is ideal for an anniversary trip, this privacy is not easy to find in other beach destinations but in Fiji it comes easily. In Fiji you can choose to include:

  • Beachfront bures (villas) where you wake up and are just a few steps from the beach
  • Staff who remember your names and make your stay feel personal
  • Excursions and experiences here designed for couples or small groups, not crowds
  • Sample plenty of fresh local seafood even better enjoyed dining under the stars or on a picnic
  • Forget the scramble for pool chairs in places like Hawai‘i or Greece – in Fiji, it’s a completely different vibe. Even better, you’ll often find you can claim an entire stretch of beach all to yourself.
  • Extra Romantic touches like turn‑down service or beachfront dinners (see below for more ideas)

Your Fiji Days – Time Together Well Spent

Anniversaries are about connection, and Fiji offers fun experiences that are best enjoyed shared together. Whether you want adventure or quiet time, these islands offer you both. These are some of the Fiji experiences that couples love:

Snorkelling in warm, clear water

Even if you’ve never snorkelled before, Fiji is one of the easiest and most magical places to try it. For the more adventurous, Fiji is also home to some of the world’s best dive sites and famously colourful soft corals.

Visiting a small Fijian village

Your resort will be connected to and employ people from local villages. During your time in Fiji a visit to a village offers a genuine glimpse into everyday island life. These are real communities — not tourist attractions — where families live simply with a strong sense of connection. It’s a meaningful way to learn about Fijian culture first‑hand.

Hiking to waterfalls or swimming in natural pools

Fiji has trails for every comfort level, from gentle walks to more challenging hikes. The lush northern island of Vanua Levu, reached by a short internal flight to Savusavu offers a few beautiful rainforest and waterfall walks, as do other islands.

Learning to scuba dive together

For the more adventurous, sharing a new adventure — especially in one of the world’s most spectacular underwater destinations — creates memories you’ll talk about for years.

Romantic Touches to Celebrate Your Special Day

Fijians are known for their warm hospitality, it is not just good service, but more a feeling of being genuinely welcomed. Staff take time to learn your names, share stories, and make your stay feel personal at every step. On an anniversary trip, this kindness adds a layer of meaning you don’t expect and never forget. For your special day, you might choose celebrate by adding some romantic touches such as:

♡ Renewing your vows in a small beach ceremony

Or, if you’re just starting your life together, why not get married in Fiji? Whether you elope or bring a few close friends, it’s a beautiful place to celebrate. Traditional celebrations often include music, woven mats, flowers and blessings. Even simple vow renewals or weddings in Fiji often incorporate touches of local culture that make the moment feel deeply heartfelt.

♡ Stay in a beachfront room

Is there really anything better than lazy mornings waking up to the sound of the ocean and stepping straight onto the sand? Staying absolute beachfront Fiji is an indulgence, and feels like a dream.

♡ A private dinner on the beach or on your balcony

A candlelit meal with the ocean as your soundtrack is one of the most memorable ways to mark your special day together.

♡ Relax with a couples massage

Nothing beats unwinding together with ocean breezes, soothing views and the sound of lapping water. The traditional Fijian style of massage is called bobo, a rhythmic, deeply relaxing technique that uses long strokes and natural oils to melt away tension.

Luxury That Feels Special, But Not Out of Reach

Fiji offers great value for couples celebrating an anniversary. With thoughtful advance planning, savvy value-conscious travellers can enjoy a vacation that feels indulgent without stretching your budget as far as you would for the same amenities and service as other destinations. In Fiji you can find:

  • Resort Specials & Seasonal promotions – often with bonus nights or added value four couples. The best deals are typically found during the tropical summer months (the wet season).
  • Standalone villa‑style accommodation (called a bure in Fiji) – there are many more options than just a room in a high rose resort.  In Fiji if you stay in a bure, many with thatched roofs, outdoor showers or baths and private daybeds…. this is our favourite choice for couples!
  • Romantic Bonuses – bona fide honeymooners who advise the resort at time of booking sometimes receive extra complimentary gifts such as a bottle of bubbles or a small gift.
  • All‑inclusive packages – perfect if you prefer everything organized upfront. Since many resorts sit on their own island, you will dine at your resort anyway, so pre-purchasing a meal plan can offer great value.

A Beautiful Way to End a New Zealand or Australia Trip

Many Canadian couples choose to pair Fiji with a visit to New Zealand or Australia. After exploring cities or road tripping through mountains, Fiji becomes the perfect place to slow down and celebrate your anniversary before heading home. With short flights from both countries, it is an easy and rewarding combination.

FAQ – Practical Tips to Help Couples Make the Most of Their Fiji Escape

First time visitors appreciate a few practical tips on how to prepare for a trip to the Fiji islands to make your time more enjoyable and comfortable:

Cultural curiosity and respect matter in Fiji. While Fijians are very welcoming, many are also often naturally shy, so approach interactions gently and with an open mind. A friendly “Bula” goes a long way! Dress modestly when visiting villages, remove your hat as a sign of respect and always ask before taking photos of people.

Sunscreen is a must: To protect the reefs and marine life, look for options labelled as ‘reef friendly’.  Even if you don’t usually burn, the South Pacific sun hits differently… and no-one wants to spend their anniversary or honeymoon dealing with sunburn.

Tropical friends are part of the experience: The warm climate means mosquitoes and other bug friends are around. Most resorts have supplies for purchase but if you are lucky (?) enough to be a natural insect magnet it’s worth packing your own repellant to stay comfortable throughout your trip.

Key supplies: Many places in Fiji are quite remote, which means it’s not always easy to access the supplies you’re used to – or the specific brands you prefer. While resorts usually stock a few essentials in their gift shops, it’s best to bring enough of your own medication, contact lenses, personal care items and any must‑have products to last the entire trip.

Snacks: You won’t go hungry in Fiji, but if you have dietary restrictions, favourite between‑meal treats, or simply like having something handy while travelling, consider bringing a few small packaged snacks from home. Many items are allowed, but it’s important to check Fiji’s customs guidelines before packing anything.

Plugs: While you may feel tempted to disconnect, you’ll probably still want to share a few “wish you were here” or “latergram” moments with family and friends. Fiji uses a different plug type, so be sure to pack a travel adapter to keep your devices charged.
