TRIP ITINERARY

Small Group Belize Adventure - from Belize City to Caye Caulker

8 Day Adventure

Day 1: Arrive Belize City (Belize)

Welcome to Belize! Your adventure begins in Belize City – located where the Belize River meets the Caribbean Sea, this bustling former capital is full of history and culture. You will have a welcome meeting tonight to meet your tour leader and fellow travellers. If you arrive with time to spare, Belize City has plenty to discover. On the north side is the coastal and maritime museum, housed in the beautifully restored former fire station. Also in the north is the Image Factory, displaying contemporary Belizean artists, and the National Handicraft Centre. The oldest Anglican church in Central America, St John Cathedral, was built in 1812 with bricks brought as ballast in European sailing ships. Opposite is Government House, a preserved colonial mansion that’s well worth a look from the outside.

Day 2: Belize City – Lamanai Archaeological Site – Orange Walk (Belize)

Travel by road to Carmelita where you will take a boat to the Lamanai Archaeological site. On the way you may spot colourful birds along the river, before arriving to explore the remains of an ancient Mayan civilization and its unearthed temples. Then head back up the river by boat to the town of Orange Walk, where you’ll spend the night. Settle into your lodge and enjoy an included group dinner.  Meals included: Dinner

Day 3: Orange Walk – San Ignacio (Belize)

Drive to the San Ignacio area today, stopping at an organisation formed by local Mayan women to share skills and traditional knowledge while earning an income. Join the women for a cooking demonstration followed by lunch together. Your afternoon is at your leisure. Meals included: Breakfast & Lunch

Day 4: Tikal National Park (Guatemala)

Take a day trip to the famous UNESCO site and Mayan ruins in Tikal National Park which is located just across the border in Guatemala. Among the jungle are some of the most significant remnants of the ancient Maya civilisation as well as an array wildlife. Discover the towering limestone temples and other monuments and learn about its history. Enjoy an included group lunch before making your way back to San Ignacio. Tonight is free to relax at your accommodation or explore at your own pace. Meals included: Lunch

Day 5: San Ignacio (Belize)

Today is free for you to explore at your own leisure or perhaps choose an optional activity in San Ignacio (additional expense). Choices includes a day trip to Xunantunich – an impressive Mayan ceremonial centre with panoramic views over the countryside, the caves of Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) – a living museum of Maya relics. Wade through the water until you reach the ceremonial site, where you’ll find ceramic pots and crystallised skeletons preserved by the natural processes of the cave for over 1400 years. If Maya ruins aren’t your thing, you may enjoy a trip to the Mountain Pine Ridge area to visit waterfalls and warm swimming holes, check out the butterfly garden, or canoe down the Barton Creek cave reserve.

Day 6: San Ignacio to Caye Caulker (Belize)

Travel by private transfer to Belize City to take a water taxi to the island of Caye Caulker. There are a number of islands off the coast of Belize, Caye Caulker the most well known and arguably the most beautiful. On arrival take a orientation walk to get to know this tiny laidback island where there are no cars.

Day 7: Caye Caulker (Belize)

Spend the day in Caye Caulker enjoying the white sand, blue waters, palm trees and relaxed Caribbean vibe.  Your time here is all about taking it easy, so do as much (or as little) as you like. You may choose to add an excursion (additional expense) such as Hol Chan Marine Reserve, home to the magnificent Blue Hole and the world’s second-longest barrier reef to snorkel in the crystal-clear waters among colourful corals to see tropical fish, sharks and the occasional manta ray. Each island has its own character, but they all have the unmistakable Caribbean pace and charm. After a day at the beach, Belize is famous for its barbequed food with some of the best meals cooked roadside. Caye Caulker is also famous for its lobster (June-February),or other freshly caught seafood often served in causal and colourful restaurants to a soundtrack of reggae music.

Day 8: Depart Caye Caulker (Belize)

Your tour finishes today and you depart Caye Caulker, there are no activities planned. You have a water taxi ticket included from Caye Caulker back to Belize City.  Note: Your international flights are not included, contact us for the latest fares to travel from Canada to Belize.

Want to extend your stay to add extra nights in Cay Caulker or perhaps a couple of days in Belize City before you depart? Ask our team for options.
