This two-week self-drive ‘Tassie Loop’ takes you right round the beautiful island state of Tasmania with rugged coastline, tranquil waterways as well as lovely beaches. You will also enjoy the alpine wilderness of Tasmania’s mesmerizing Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, the rich historical sites of Port Arthur, meeting the friendly locals, and tasting some seafood delights.

16 Day Adventure
Day 1: Arrive Hobart
Upon arrival at the airport, locate your driver for the transfer to your Hobart hotel where you will check in for 3 nights. The balance of your day is at leisure.
Day 2: Day at Leisure
Day at leisure today. We recommend visiting the Museum of Old and New Art (Mona), head to Mount Wellington for incredible views or catching a performance at the Theatre Royal, Australia’s longest-running theatre. We hope this is a Saturday so you can enjoy the Salamanca Markets.
Day 3: Hobart City Tour
Embark on a half-day informative historic Hobart city bus tour with expert local commentary of 40 different historical sites and attractions. Your tour will stop at Anglesea Barracks, the Cascade Brewery gardens, Cascade Female Factory Historic Site, Rosny Hill Lookout and the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens.
Day 4: Strahan
Pickup up your hire car from the city depot and drive to Strahan where you will check in to your hotel for 2 nights. Perhaps plan a walk in Mt Field National Park along the way. The balance of your day is at leisure.
Day 5: Day at Leisure
Enjoy your Gordon River Cruise into some of beautiful World Heritage Wilderness aboard the electric Spirit of the Wild vessel with comfort and quiet. Lunch is included as well as a 30 minute nature walk.
Day 6: Cradle Mountain
Drive to Cradle Mountain where you will check in to your hotel for 2 nights. The balance of your day is at leisure. Be sure to consider a nocturnal tour for great wildlife viewing!
Day 7: Day at Leisure
Day at leisure today. We recommend exploring this alpine wilderness on one of the many walks available.
Day 8: Stanley
Drive to Stanley where you will check in to your hotel for 2 nights. The balance of your day is at leisure.
Day 9: Day at Leisure
Day at leisure today. We recommend exploring this fishing village framed by a volcanic outcrop and ride The Nut Chairlift to explore the plateau; a two-kilometre (1.2-mile) walk around the summit giving fantastic views!
Day 10: Launceston
Drive to Launceston where you will check in to your hotel for 2 nights. The balance of your day is at leisure. We recommend exploring the small but cosmopolitan city set on the mouth of a river, where you can get excellent produce and fine food and wander the quaint streets to shop for antiques and sample home-baked goods at one of the many cafés.
Day 11: Day at Leisure
Crystal azure blue waters with pristine white beaches and outcrops of orange lichen covered granite rocks. The scenery at the Bay of Fires is simply breathtaking! This tour takes you through some of the prettiest locations in Tasmania. Visit Bridestowe Lavender farm (September to April) home of Bobbie the Lavender Bear. Enjoy a short rainforest walk and oyster tasting.
Day 12: Coles Bay
Drive to Coles Bay where you will check in to your hotel for 2 nights. The balance of your day is at leisure.
Day 13: Day at Leisure
Day at leisure today. We recommend exploring Freycinet National Park with its dramatic pink granite peaks, secluded bays, white sandy beaches and abundant birdlife. The hike up to the viewpoint over Wineglass Bay is not to be missed!
Day 14: Port Arthur
Drive to Port Arthur where you will check in to your hotel for 2 nights. The balance of your day is at leisure.
Day 15: Wilderness Cruise
Tasman Island Cruises provides unforgettable three-hour wilderness cruises along the spectacular coastline between Port Arthur and Eaglehawk Neck in southern Tasmania. The cruise travels beneath the highest vertical sea cliffs in the Southern Hemisphere at Cape Pillar. Guests explore waterfalls, rock formations, archways and deep-sea caves. The coastline is part of the Tasman National Park. It is home to a variety of wildlife including hundreds of seals, migrating whales and abundant sea birds in their thousands.
At any time of year you’re likely to see the feeding frenzy of diving gannets, albatross and sea eagles wheeling on the wind, cliff-nesting cormorants and peregrine falcons, or a pod of playful dolphins surfing the bow wave of the boat.
