Yogyakarta & Bali

Day 1: Arrive Yogyakarta (Jogjakarta), Java

Welcome to Yogyakarta on the island of Java, Indonesia.  On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel.  The rest of your day is at leisure.

Yogyakarta (known by locals as Jogjakarta or Jogja) is the cultural heart of the island of Java, located at the foot of Merapi volcano.

Day 2: Yogyakarta Temples, Java

Spend today exploring three temples that are located in a straight line and form a route for the sacred ritual ceremony of Vesak, where Buddhist pilgrims make the journey on foot to all three temples. Borobudur the largest Buddhist temple in the world built in the 8th and 9th centuries that is one of the great archaeological monument sites in southeast Asia along with Bagan in Myanmar and Angkor Wat in Cambodia.  Then discover Mendut Temple, the oldest temple you will see this day, that has become a centre for Buddhism practices and rituals followed by the petite Pawon Temple, also known as Bajranalan. Continue to Kaliadem Village for beautiful views of Mount Merapi.

Day 3: Yogyakarta & Prambanan Temple, Java

Discover the city of Yogyakarta including Kraton the Sultan’s Palace, Taman Sari water castle, traditional batik home industry and the Kotagede silver village. Visit Prambanan Temple, the 9th century Hindu temple compound in southern Java that is UNESCO World Heritage Listed and is Indonesia’s largest Hindu site. Here you can see the remains of 244 temples, a mystical cultural site with a rich and intricate history.

Day 4: Yogyakarta (Java) to Bali

Transfer to Yogyakarta airport for your flight to Bali (flight additional expense).  On arrival you will be met and after lunch embark on a visit to the 17th century Taman Ayun Temple (or Pura Taman Ayun) located in Mengwi Village.  This complex is one of Bali’s most popular shrines, situated in a beautiful park with trees and ponds, it is one of the six royal temples in Bali.  Finish your day with a drive to Tanah Lot, one of Balis most important landmarks, a famous place to watch the sunset.

Day 5: Kintamani & Ubud, Bali

Drive to Batubulan where you have the chance to shop at the Batubulan Batik Center, Celuk and Mas the center of Wood Carving crafts, plus Gold and Silversmiths. Visit Tegenungan waterfall, Tampak Siring, a famous Holy Springs water temple and a local Bali Coffee Plantation.  Enjoy lunch at Kintamani with views of the lake and Mount Batur before travelling back to Ubud to visit to Tegalalang Rice Terraces.

Day 6: Nusa Penida, Bali

Travel to Nusa Penida Island by fast boat today.  Here you will visit Kelingking Beach, Broken Beach, Angel Billabong & Crystal Bay.

Day 7: Eastern Bali

Today you will explore the eastern part of Bali, starting by visiting Bat Cave then on to Candidasa Beach & Lempuyang Temple and the famous ‘Gates of Heaven’ with views of Mount Agung. This is oone of Bali’s oldest and most highly regarded temples. Finally, visit Tirta Gangga Water Palace, a large complex that includes a maze of pools and fountains.

Day 8: Depart Bali, Indonesia

Your Indonesia adventure concludes today.  Your day is at leisure until your transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
