Sample Itinerary (Subject to Change)

Day 1: Arrive Arusha, Tanzania

Welcome to Tanzania. You can arrive at any time today, there are no planned activities until you meet your group. If you have time you may choose to explore the town and its bustling markets in Arusha independently. Overnight in Arusha for 1 night.

Day 2: Arusha – Mto wa Mbu – Lake Manyara

Travel from Arusha to Mto wa Mbu by road, this takes approximately 2-3 hours (130km). Explore the local village on a guided 2-hour walking tour to learn about life in this East African town that has 18,000 residents from 120 different tribes. Visit the local market, farmer’s fields, see how huts are constructed and meet local artisans. Enjoy a traditional homemade lunch of meat and plantains with your hosts.

In the afternoon discover Lake Manyara National Park Spend the afternoon viewing wildlife along the main road that winds through a lush cool forests of Lake Manyara National Park, a stunning area where the western wall of the Rift Valley escarpment provides a gorgeous backdrop, phenomenal birdlife, tree-climbing lions, elephants, giraffes and hippos. Overnight in Campsite for 1 night.

Day 3: Mto wa Mbu – Serengeti National Park

Enjoy a wildlife safari drive enroute to the central Serengeti area. Drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and on to Serengeti National Park. Along the way marvel at the vastness of this territory and spot the multitude of animal and birdlife while cruising through this acacia-accented savanna. Overnight in Campsite for 2 nights

Day 4: Serengeti National Park

Rise early today for a wildlife safari drive in the Serengeti for an up-close look at wild Africa in search for the “big five”, while taking in the vastness of the magnificent Serengeti plains. Take your binoculars and set out on safari in search of wildlife such as buffalo, elephants, lions, wildebeests, zebras and more.

Optional Serengeti Activity (additional expense) – Serengeti Balloon Safari.  You can choose to fly above the Serengeti in a hot-air balloon, for a birds eye view of the wildlife and terrain of the Serengeti. Enjoy a champagne breakfast and keep your camera ready – there is so much to see during your hour in the air.  Note: if you choose to add this excursion option (additional cost) it takes place while the group morning safari drive is happening.

Day 5: Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Crater

Take a morning wildlife safari drive as you depart the Serengeti, then travel to Ngorongoro (approximately 4 hours) to continue wildlife viewing in the Ngorongoro Crater. This includes the best spots to view wildlife such as zebras, gazelles, buffalo and warthogs. The swamp and forest are home to hippos, rhinos, elephants, baboons and monkeys. The rich pasture and permanent water of the Crater floor supports a resident population of more than 20,000 to 25,000 large mammals.  Keep your eyes peeled and camera ready to capture a pride of lions or a lone leopard walking along the crater floor.

Day 6: Ngorongoro – Maasai Village – Arusha

Visit an authentic Maasai village and the local Clean Cookstove Project that G Adventures supports. In Tanzania, 95% of people rely on cooking with wood and coal. Women and girls spend hours walking to collect wood every day (making them vulnerable to assault and unable to use their time to go to school). Indoor smoke from open-fire stoves causes cancer, emphysema, pneumonia, blindness, and burns. Take a guided tour of villages and meet the women that have been trained as stove engineers, visit bomas (traditional homes) and see the Stove Team build a stove in a home. See first hand the beneficial impact of the clean-burning stoves on the health and daily lives of the Maasai villagers.

Return to Arusha (approximately 4-5 hours) where your tour ends on arrival.  Your onward flights must be booked to depart after 6pm (flights not included in tour price), or you can choose to extend your stay in Arusha (post tour accommodation additional cost).
