Tanzania Trek & Safari

14 Day Active Adventure - Kilimanjaro, Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Tarangire

Trek to The Roof of Africa, Kilimanjaro, followed by a Tanzania Wildlife Safari - The ultimate Combo!

An unforgettable Kilimanjaro and Tanzania adventure including trekking the worlds largest freestanding mountain and a wildlife safari. Experience a range of climatic zones as you explore Kilimanjaro, ‘the Roof of Africa ‘ is a dormant volcano with 3 cones and a snow-capped peak.  Also known as Uhuru (meaning freedom in Swahili), Kili has seven established trekking routes. The 80km Rongai Route is more scenic and remote than the Marangu Route, easier than the Machame Route and has a high success rate. Your hike on the Rongai Route snakes up the northern side of the mountain, straddling Tanzania and Kenya and is one of the less crowded Kilimanjaro trek routes. You join the Marangu Route for the summit climb and descent down the southeast side.

The second part of your journey is a safari to see more of the spectacular landscapes and wildlife of Tanzania.  Explore iconic game reserves and national parks in Tanzania including Serengeti National Park, the Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire National Park.

The remainder of the day is spent resting in preparation for the final ascent before a very early night at Kibo Huts. Overnight at Kibo Camp and rise at midnight start the ascent to summit.

Day 7: Kilimanjaro to Moshi

Wake at midnight to prepare for your Kilimanjaro summit ascent! Start the final, and by far the steepest and most demanding part of the climb by torchlight around 1 a.m. The goal is to reach Uhuru Peak just after sunrise. The beginning of this climb is darkness on a switchback trail with headlamps or flashlights through loose volcanic scree to reach the crater rim at Gillman’s PointRest there for a short time to enjoy the spectacular sunrise over Mawenzi. Those who are still feeling strong can make the 3-hour round trip to the summit of Kilimanjaro (Uhuru Peak,) passing spectacular glaciers and ice cliffs that occupy most of the summit area. The descent to Kibo is surprisingly fast. Continue your descent to reach your campsite at Horombo campsite where you will overnight.

Day 12: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater National Park

After breakfast, venture into the Serengeti’s wilderness corners for a full day of game viewing in the park.
