Belize Vacation - Belize City, St Ignacio, Ambergris Caye

14 Day Adventure

Day 1: Arrive Belize City, Belize

Welcome to Belize, on arrival you will be met and transferred by private vehicle to your hotel in Belize city. This is the old capital and today is the largest city and commercial hub with the international airport making it the gateway to the small country of Belize. The remainder of your day is at your leisure. Stay in Belize City at the Best Western Plus Belize Biltmore Plaza (Deluxe Room) for 3 nights.

Day 2: Belize City Sightseeing

This bustling, colourful city features Victorian architecture from the British colonial era and a unique blend of cuisine, languages, dancing, and traditions that make Belize unique. Today you will explore the city on a guided city tour with time to shop. Meals included: Breakfast

Day 3: Lamanai Mayan Site

Today is an adventure to discover the ancient remains of Lamanai or ‘submerged crocodile’ which got its name from the abundant crocodiles in the New River Lagoon. This Mayan Yucatec city was predominantly occupied by farmers, merchants and traders until in the 16th century BC and was not discovered until the 1970’s.  Just getting to Lamani is an adventure. You will be transferred to the New River docks to take a boat transfer where you will see diverse bird life and native flora. On arrival, walk through one of Belize’s largest Mayan ceremonial centers. You can also visit the museum which has a great display of pottery and artifacts. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

Day 4: Belize City to San Ignacio, Cayo District

Visit Belize City Zoo, originally a sanctuary for wild animals this is now a 29-acre tropical savannah with over 170 animals including over 45 species native to Belize.  This zoo has many animals you are unlikely to see elsewhere such as Tapirs, Gibnuts, Scarlet Macaws, White-lipped Peccaries, Pumas and many more. The animals that the zoo were orphaned, rescued, born at the zoo, rehabilitated or sent from other zoological institutions as donations. Following your zoo visit you have a private transfer by road from Belize City to the Cayo District to your eco lodge in the jungle.  Stay at Black Rock Lodge (Riverview Cabin) for 4 nights. Meals included: Breakfast

Days 5: Xunantunich & Cahal Pech Mayan Site

Today you will explore more of Belize’s Mayan history, travel by private vehicle to Xunantunich Archaeological Site (Mayan for “Maiden of the Rocks”) for a guided tour through the most important monuments at the site.  This was the first excavated site in Belize that was opened to visitors. El Castillo rises 130ft above ground and is one of the highest buildings in Belize with impressive views of the Mopan River Valley. From here, you can also see a large stucco freeze on a lower temple, as well as a mask with larger ears next to a moon sign with a border of signs representing Venus. After your Xunantunich tour you will be taken to the Cahal Pech Mayan site which use to be a hilltop palace for an elite Mayan Family. Meals included: Breakfast & Lunch

Days 6: Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) Cave

Today you will visit the most famous cave in Belize that was also ranked as one of the “Top Ten Caves Of The World” by the National Geographic Society. Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave (Cave of the Stone Sepulcher) is a picturesque attraction is steeped in history and its vast network of underground chambers is a treasure trove for archaeologists. Start your day with a private transfer to the ATM Cave and then hike 30 minutes through the forest to the cave entrance. After a short swim you reach the amazing underworld realm. An adventurous trek leads into the main water passage with amazing geological formations like sparkling stalactites, stalagmites, and flow stones. This hidden chamber reveals ancient secrets and geological processes that have helped to shape the Maya underworld (Xibalba, a fearful world beneath the earth) the parallel unseen, where kings and shamans of the Maya past could enter to communicate with their gods or ancestors through rituals and ceremonies. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

Days 7: San Ignacio

Today is at your leisure to relax and explore around your jungle eco-lodge that is surrounded by dense rainforest, or perhaps visit the town of San Ignacio. With just 13 cabins that are decorated by local artisans and craftspeople. Meals included: Breakfast

Day 8: San Ignacio to San Pedro/Ambergris Caye

Travel to Ambergris Caye today, first travelling by private vehicle transfer to Belize Airport for a short 15-minute scenic flight to San Pedro.  On arrival you will be met and transferred to your Brahma Blue in Ambergris Caye where you will stay for 6 nights in a standard room. The remainder of your day is spent at your leisure. Meals included: Breakfast

Days 9-13: Ambergris Caye

These days are at your leisure to relax and soak up the laid back Caribbean coast. Your resort is located on a private sanctuary in the heart of San Pedro ‘La Isla Bonita’ across the lagoon from the main island yet also conveniently close to the heart of town (just 5 minutes by boat). You can also reach the famous ‘Secret Beach’ by boat in just 20 mins.

During your stay we have included two excursions: Hol Chan Marine Reserve & Shark Ray Alley – Hol Chan is the oldest marine reserve in Belize, located on the southern tip of Ambergris Caye. The marine reserve covers approximately 3-square miles and it’s divided into four zones. Today you will visit stop in two places to explore the amazing underwater landscape of the Barrier Reef  to see corals of all forms, sizes, and colors as well as bright tropical fish. The second stop is at Shark Ray Alley, a shallow area where you may feed and pet Nurse Sharks and Sting Rays and if you are brave enough you may even swim with them.

The other Caribbean coast excursion to explore more of the reef underwater world is the Coral Gardens Snorkelling excursion is to discover beautiful dancing Fan Corals and the teeming, exotic tropical fish that live among them. The snorkelling in Amgris Caye is world-class and one of the prettiest underwater landscapes in Belize. Meals included: Breakfast daily

Day 14: Ambergris Caye to Belize City

Farewell Belize today, your day is at leisure until your transfer to San Pedro airstrip for your short flight to Belize City.  Note: Your international flights are not included, contact us for the latest fares to travel from Canada to Belize.
