This South Pacific trip is the ideal combo between adventure and relaxation, without breaking the bank! Road tripping is the ultimate way to explore New Zealand, travelling at your own pace with the ultimate flexibility to see what you want. Start in Auckland and see where the road takes you! You may choose to take a ferry to Waiheke Island or discover wild west coast Auckland beaches of Te Henga, Muriwai and Piha. Head north of Auckland to the beautiful Bay of Islands or to the top of New Zealand (Cape Reinga) or head south to the central north island where you can see Waitomo Caves, Hobbiton, Lake Taupo and the central volcanic region to Rotorua and the Hawkes Bay. If you choose to venture to the small coastal town of Gisborne you can be one of the first in the world to see the sunrise each day. You have plenty of options on which route to choose for two weeks depending on your interests.

TRIP ITINERARY
New Zealand Road Trip & Island Adventure
21 Day Adventure
Day 1: Depart Canada
Your flight departs today. You will cross the international dateline and ‘lose’ a day.
Day 3: Arrive Auckland, New Zealand
Haere Mai, welcome to Aotearoa (New Zealand). After arriving at Auckland Airport, call your rental company to request a ride on the free shuttle to their depot (shuttle operates between 8:30am – 3:30pm). Pick up your camper and start your adventure! There are so many fun routes you can choose in New Zealand depending on your interests
Days 4-15: Road Tripping in New Zealand
You have two weeks to explore New Zealand at your own pace. You may choose to travel north to the beautiful Bay Of Islands that also include places of historical significance (Russell, Waitangi, Paihia & Keri Keri) or up to Cape Reinga at the very top of the north island where oceans meet. If you travel south, you may explore Rotorua, Waitomo Caves, Hobbiton, Lake Taupo, Hawkes Bay, famous for art deco architecture in Napier and amazing wine country.
Day 16: Auckland (New Zealand) – Rarotonga (Cook Islands)
Your Kiwi road trip adventure comes to an end today. Return your motorhome in Auckland and proceed to the airport for your flight to the Cook Islands. On arrival you will be met and transferred from Rarotonga Airport to your accommodation where you will stay for 5 nights.
Lagoon Breeze Villas is located on 4-acres of lush tropical gardens and offers just 24 villas on Rarotonga’s sunset coast across from the Aroa Beach & Marine Reserve. This self-catering property has a pool, communal BBQ and complimentary kayaks. Each villa also includes air conditioning, kitchenette and an outdoor patio.
Days 17 – 20: Rarotonga
Relax… you’re on island time now! Your days in Rarotonga are spent completely at your leisure to explore and do as much or as little as you please. Enjoy simple pleasures such as walking along beaches, hiking the rugged interior, watching the sunset or visiting the local market on a Saturday. This island is just 32km around, so exploring is simple, there are buses that travel either clockwise or anti-clockwise.
We have included the following excursion one day: Lagoon Day Cruise Excursion – Spend a day enjoying the clear, shallow water and a glass bottom boat cruise on Muri Lagoon. This natural aquarium has myriads of colourful fish and snorkelling is the ideal way to explore up close. After snorkelling, head to a small island to relax and enjoy a delicious fresh fish island-style BBQ lunch.
Day 21: Rarotonga – Canada
Your trip comes to an end today. You will be transferred to Rarotonga Airport to commence your journey home to Canada.
