Sample Costa Rica Itinerary (Subject to change):

Day 1: Arrive San José, Costa Rica

Welcome to Costa Rica. On arrival in San José, you will be met at the airport and taken by private transfer to your hotel on the outskirts of the city (approx. 30 mins)

Day 2: San Jose – Bajos del Toro

Transfer by private vehicle to your lodge in Bajos del Toro (approximately 2hrs,  70km). Nestled in Costa Rica’s central highlands, El Silencio Lodge & Spa is a sophisticated eco-lodge that is a perfect gateway to explore the pristine tropical cloud forest. Suites offer mountain or river views and have a private outdoor heated whirlpool. The restaurant focuses on local cuisine made with ingredients sourced from its organic mini farm. Esencia Spa is a wellness sanctuary where you can enjoy the best of locally sourced natural healing ingredients in luxurious surroundings.

Day 3: Bajos del Toro

Today is spent at your leisure to enjoy Bajos del Toro and your stunning lodge.  This small rural town in the province of Alajuela is a great place to experience the beautiful cloud forest, authentic local culture and a relaxing escape.

Day 4: Bajos del Toro – Arenal

Transfer to your boutique rainforest retreat in Arenal in the northern region of Costa Rica (approximately 2 hours, 90km). Amor Arenal is set amongst untouched jungle on the lower slopes of the Arenal Volcano. This boutique hotel offers seclusion, paths and trails to explore the surrounding rainforest, exclusive access to the streams of the canyon below.  Guests here can experience nature, wellness, delicious healthy food with impeccable hospitality.

Day 5: Arenal

Today explore the Arenal Volcano area on a guided hike to see a great variety of flora and fauna, the impacted craters and the lava slides of 1992. On clear days, you can enjoy incredible views of the impressive Arenal Volcano, Arenal lake, the Tilaran mountain range, and Cerro Chato. At the end of the hike, visit a thermal hot springs where you can soak, relax and enjoy the different pools and mineral waters.

Day 6: Arenal

Today discover Místico Hanging Bridges, a 250 ha. property with paths and bridges through the forest with impressive views of Arenal Volcano and lake. Your walk is a fun educational way to immerse yourself and get up close with the primary rainforest, including diverse selection of plants and birds with the expertise of a naturalist guide.

Day 7: Arenal – Turrialba

Leave the Arenal area, transfer to Siquirres (approximately 2.5 hours, 130km) where you will get further off the beaten track and travel into your lodge by rafting the river (approximately 2.5 hours).

Pacuare Lodge is a unique wilderness lodge that combines nature, hospitality and conservation Enjoy the sustainably built standalone rooms and the sounds of the rainforest for a blissful restful experience on the banks of the Pacuare River. The Turrialba region is known worldwide for its rafting and is also inhabited by an important indigenous group (Cabecar) with more than 250 archaeological sites and objects used by ancestors.

Day 8: Pacuare

Today is at your own leisure to choose from included activities from the daily schedule at your lodge such as canopy tour, canyoning, birdwatching, waterfall hike, Cabecar indigenous hike, rural experience sustainability tour or The Loop naturalist and cultural walk.

Day 9: Turrialba – Puerto Viejo

Depart via the Pacuare River by raft (approximately 4 hours), then take a transfer from Siquirres to your boutique art & design oriented hotel in Puerto Viejo (approximately 3 hours, 160km).

Hotel Aguas Claras is a special intimate oasis filled with an art collection and Caribbean soul. This luxury hotel is a vibrant place to stay with just a small number of rooms amongst tropical surroundings with beach access to Playa Chiquita on the South Caribbean coast.

Days 10-11: Puerto Viejo

These days are spent at your leisure to explore Puerto Viejo and surrounds and do as little or as much as you choose.  The Costa Rica Caribbean is a place to visit protected areas, sites of cultural interest, attractions and beautiful beaches. Chill at the beach club, use the hotel bikes or snorkelling gear, hike and snorkel Cahuita National Park or learn about local indigenous group the Bribrí who retain their culture and traditions.

Day 12: Puerto Viejo to San José, Depart Costa Rica

Your romantic adventure finishes today. Travel by private transfer today to San José airport to depart Costa Rica.
