Botswana Highlights

Botswana & Zimbabwe Tour Highlights:

• Hwange National Park – When visiting Zimbabwe, Hwange National Park is a must-see. It is the country’s largest national park, covering more than 14,000 sq.km. With over 400 bird species and more than a hundred mammals, Hwange National Park offers some of the best wildlife viewing opportunities in Africa. The optimal time to visit is during the dry season July – October, when animals gather around the waterholes and pans.
• Moremi National Park – The central and eastern parts of the Okavango Delta are protected by the Moremi Game Reserve. This includes not only the waterways but also the drier regions, offering a great diversity of wildlife and 500+bird species. Moremi has been described as one of the most beautiful wildlife reserves in Africa. With the reintroduction of white rhino, it is once again a big-five reserve.
• Okavango Delta – This vast and varied ecosystem of the Okavango Delta is a well known Botswana wildlife and safari destination. The Okavango River flows into the Kalahari Desert and creates a myriad of waterways that are home to some of Africa’s most endangered wildlife and birds.
• Chobe National Park – famous for big herds of buffalo and its huge elephant population. This safari destination in Botswana has some of the highest game densities in Africa. Chobe is especially well known for the beautiful remote Savuti region.
• Victoria Falls – the largest waterfall in the world also known as one of the seven wonders of the world! Visit Vic falls, explore the town and enjoy the great selection of adventure activities that are available.

Sample Itinerary (Subject to change)

Day 1: Arrive Maun, Botswana

On arrival into Maun Airport, you will be met and transferred to your lodge located on the Thamalakane River. This town is the safari capital of Botswana! You will have the day free to explore or perhaps book an optional sunset cruise on the river (additional expense).

Meals: Dinner

Days 2-3: Maun to Greater Moremi (Botswana)

Travel from Maun to your safari lodge situated on the banks of the Khwai River. During your time in the Moremi Area you will have the opportunity to enjoy a full day Mokoro (canoe) trip and guided game drives.

The Okavango River flows into the Kalahari Desert and creates a myriad of waterways home to some of Africa’s most endangered wildlife and birds. We explore the natural majesty of the Delta by boat and vehicle on this leg of your Botswana and Zimbabwe safari.

Days 4-5: Greater Moremi to Greater Chobe (Botswana)

This morning take a light aircraft flight to Kasane which is the gateway to the Chobe National Park.  Cruise along the Chobe River for great game viewing and enjoy a lunch on this boat safari.  You will then be transferred to your Chobe lodge.

The following day, rise early for an included game drive through the Chobe bush. Famous for its large herds of buffalo and its impressive elephant population, Chobe is an up close and inspiring safari destination as it has some of the highest game densities in Africa.

Cool morning temperatures make for great game viewing as the large numbers of animals move around before the heat of the day arrives. The rest of the day in Chobe is at your leisure. Relax at the lodge poolside and soak up some sun, or take an optional extra game drive or night game drive for more game viewing (extra game drives, additional expense).

Days 6-7: Chobe (Botswana) to Hwange (Zimbabwe)

Travel to your lodge in Hwange, Zimbabwe’s largest national park which is a haven for wildlife, including herds of elephant, buffalo and zebra, as well as a concentration of giraffe. It is also home to many predators, endangered species and over 400 bird species. This means is offers some of the best wildlife viewing in Africa. During the dry season from July to October animals concentrate around the waterholes and pans, so this is the best time to visit.

Here you will have the opportunity to search for African wildlife on a half day game drive the first day (optional, additional expense), followed by a full day game drive traversing a large part of Hwange taking in the beautiful fauna and flora of the park. Expect to see elephants in large numbers. Giraffe, several antelope species and a high density of lions find their home in this area. Hopefully you get to tick off a few of the ‘big five’.

Day 8: Hwange to Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe)

Continuing our trip, leave Botswana and drive to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Enjoy the story of the historical Victoria Falls bridge as you journey across it. Victoria Falls is the largest waterfall and is also one of the seven wonders of the world! Explore the town and enjoy the great selection of adventure activities that are available (optional, additional expense).

Day 9: Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe)

Cruise down the mighty Zambezi River at sunset, basking in the afterglow of the day before returning to indulge in a mouth-watering 3-course potjie creation.

Day 10: Depart Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

Your safari ends today with a transfer to Victoria Falls Airport in for your onward flight (not included).
